I have some awsome sirloin steaks I want to braai tomorrow. I always do the same marinade/ basting (coke, tom sauce, vinegar, garlic etc.). Anyone suggest something different for braai day?

I am not a huge fan of any marinade / basting on a steak. You pay a fair amount to taste the meat, not the Jimmy sauce.

When it comes to steak I always do the following. Put the steak in a container add some good quality Extra Virgin Olive oil over the steaks - nothing crazy. Add some Red Wine infused Balsamic Vinger. You really do not need a lot of the balsamic. Let them do their business for 20 minutes to a few hours.

Slap the steaks on the braai and on the final turn drip the left over juices over them.

Once your steaks are just lekke remove from the braai, let them rest for 5 minutes and add course salt.

Thanks for the replies. I also don't tend to mess with a good piece of meat. These are the last ones I did a few weeks ago. Marinated in a little vinegar and biltong spice, drained, hung for a couple of hours and onto a hot fire. Enjoy the fishing and braaing tomorrow!

I use soya sauce and olive oil marinade in a plastic bag for an hour out of fridge to reach room temp.

Try this idea if u like cheese and mustard:

Cut your steak into two equal size portions and braai one side.

Turn the one piece over on grid and spread on the cooked side with mustard of your choice and grated cheddar cheese or blue cheese.

Place other steak on top so cooked side is facing inwards and secure with toothpicks.

Turn steak parcel over to braai other side.

Make sure to remove tooth picks before serving.
