big fish on dropshot

Art-lure is as it says on the tin, it's an art and a challenge and that is why people do it.

The marketing guys sure know how to make money off us gullable anglers.........

Firstly, why do you think if you throw a lure in the water a fish should hang from it and right away. There's a bit more to it.

In theory lures should outperform bait. Well, you don't have to put the lure on each time.

Some years ago it was true that the bait guys cought more fish than the luries, this however is changing. Once you (or usually someone else) figgered the correct way to present a lure and present the correct lure, you can't go wrong. The bugger is this may change when conditions change...

One thing is for sure, the longer you fish lures, the luckier you get :-D

Miles...great to see you again!

So true the marketing guys, or spin doctors, can warp the most amazing things into the minds of consumers! I was chatting to Dave Alcock on Friday...he just laughs when you ask him about 'Dropshot' fishing! LoL

Tight lines & bloody decks,

T

p.s. when are we going to see more amazing YF action pics from yo again?

Hi guys I usually watch the salt water fishing threads and decided to have a look at the drop shot threads. I briefly went through this thread and found it quite interesting! I can understand Sushi's comments BUT have to ad that once you understand and grasp the theory and technique it is a extremely rewarding way to catch fish! The problem with this thread is that most of the posts and the fish that are being caught seem to be East Coast and further north and again the majority of the fish seem to be all game fish. The reason why I wanted to read up on this thread was to see if anyone is catching Cob/Geelbek/Steenbras or Grunters on drop shot and also shore based fishing? AND are there no post from our area (West Coast/Western Cape)? I have a small inflatable kayak and have finally grasped the concept of drop shot fishing! BUT I want more! I want to know how can I go drop shot fishing from the rock and surf beaches? I have been making good catches of cob from my Kayak, but it is younger fish 55cm to 66cm. I am pretty successful with bigger cob from the surf (fishing with bait) but now want to catch those buggers on drop shot! Any advise?? In the last 4 outings I have caught 11 cob and only 1 was on bait the rest were all on drop shot. It's gotten  to the stage where I don't even worry about putting bait into the water as the drop shot has been out performing the bait - hands down!!!!!

Hi daar

Ek was op my kayak en het in totaal agt kabeljoue gevang in so twee ure.

Hi DSM

I usually just browse and follow threads that make good reading ! And its good to see that you have taken up the interest in Drop shot fishing. Once you break the ice with it - you hooked ! Techinique and retrieve is crucial with Drop Shot angling! Its all about feeling the knock and dropping it back in the zone quickly to entice the strike.

We in the Eastern Cape probably have the best estuaries and surf lines on our coast for angling in my opinion and alot of fish are caught with drop shot in our rivers\surf lines\rocks and off shore including the likes of Grunter and White Steenbras.

It is a versatile style of fishing and everyone should give it a go !

Off Shore drop shot to me must not be confused with simply putting on a scented jerk shad and fish it as bait. You might as well just use Chokka or Pillie as its cheaper :)

Keep persevering and the rewards will speak for themselves

I have even hooked a 100kg Raggie on Nuclear Chicken ... lool . 1h20min later i cut line when fish was at the boat ! sharks are not fun to play with at the side of a boat
