So 2 weekends ago we set off to the transkei coast and the sea was big the first day.

Saturday we headed to the one river mouth and threw a few paddletails.
I was using mccarthy and a mate was using havoc paddletails.

He got stuck in a cob and not long after that a second and a third and a fourth and well u get the idea. Me well i got uhmmm nothing.

Tried every coulour i had with no success.
I put one of his on and my second throw i was vas.

My question is what the @#$&#&@&#

Sometimes its something as simple as the profile of your lure, the havoc has a slimmer profile than the mcarthy lures and that is probably what the kob were into on the day, I have seen it many times with other species where two different lures of the same size but different profiles will not yield the same results.

Exactly

Watched Garrick on the Island nail 1.5oz needle nose and turn away from large profile plugs. Turns out they were feeding on Sprats

Next day you needed the fatest shortest plug in your box to get a follow, turns out they were eating Carranteen and Blacktail.

Profile of the natural prey changes so they were excited by what they were hunting.

What they were eating we found by checking the stomach contents of 2 of the 18 fish fish we caught on the 2 days (rest released)) and we could see them on Day 1 hunting deep and on day 2 hunting on the edge of the rocks.
