Removing Rust from Treble Hooks

Hi Fellow Sealiners

I purchased a few lures recently (2nd hand) and i noticed that some of the trebles are slightly rusted. Is there anyway of cleaning the hooks or should i simply replace them? Treble Hooks are expensive.

heard of folks soaking hooks in cider vinegar or making a paste of lemon juice and salt and leaving them in there for a while, but if they're very rusty its probably best to replace them. Most definitely easier.

Why not change them for singles?

Thats an option. I was thinking of buying a small can of NS 1 Rust Buster from Duram (R120) and coat all hooks. This might be a cheaper option. Theres about 30 lures with 2/3 trebles each.

Not sure of the quality but from what i've seen online, the Eagle claw trebles are a lot cheaper than say Owner or Gamakatsu.

Hi fisy-fishy its best to replace them once the nickle coating comes off it will keep on rusting so its best to get new ones and yes you can use single hooks
