Tiger fishing Massingir dam Mozambique

Hi fellow sealiners.

I am planning on doing a 4/5 day trip to Massingir dam in Mozambique-travelling through Kruger park via Letaba and Giriyondo border post.

I have never been there and was hoping someone out there could shed some light on this dam. The Letaba and Olifants rivers flow into it and the dam wall was raised a few years ago causing some consternation in Kruger as it pushed back into the park flooding large croc breeding grounds.

Will probably stay in Covane fishing lodge. I have my own boat(Ski Vee 500) and all the gear needed.

I believe there are some big tigers in the dam and they are suppose to be present in large numbers. Also present are huge barbel, carp and bream. Main target would however be the tigers and barbel.(I am always fishing for barbel!)

This venue has been on my to do list for a while and will be an exploration trip so to speak but I think it will be a real fun outing.

Any reports, feedback regarding the venue will be appreciated and if there is somebody who would seriously like to join we can make a plan.

Looking forward to your feedback, many thanks.

Due to change in work schedule I may be returning home this weekend in which case this trip may take place sooner! Late January!Thumbs crossed.

Offer is still open if anybody would seriously like to join I will have space in the vehicle and on the boat.

I will definitely post a report.

Hi

Sal graag terugvoer wil hê wanneer jy daar was.

Daar is twee hoof bly plekke.

Massingir Fishing Report:

We stayed at Covane Community Lodge and chartered their boat and guide. First evening we were lucky to by invited by the owners son to go trawling for tigers. Great evening out and we lost a lot of fish but did land one.
On the boat at 6.00am the next morning and headed to the islands that have appeared due to the drought.
Incredible morning of tiger fishing. Landed 22 fish between my girlfriend and I. 4.5kg was the largest. Action packed morning! At first we kept missing the fish so I added an extra hook to the spoons. That did the trick.
Skipper was really knowledgeable and staying at the lodge was fantastic. Good food and great people to boot.
There is an airstrip nearby which would make for a really good weekend visit.

Ek is in Letaba kamp in Desember. Weet enige iemand of dit so is?

When going through the Giriyondo border (or Pafuri) I always make a booking in the Moz side of the reserve. This still counts as your "overnight" stop in the park. Just take along a print out of your booking. Also be aware, thep klap you heavy fees through the Moz side of the park. Best check on current prices. I haven't been through for 2 years.
