There are heavy metals in the vlei from the motor, body works and related paint industries from years back still in the area up the canals.. I've eaten a few springer from there, being algae eaters I thought but was probably not a good thing to do regularly  . I'd be hesitant to eat any fish out of sandvlei really. was at the meeting the other night . livebait and trebles are allowed its a proposal that still needs to be tabled possibly next year according to Dalton boards were put up as its standard practice to ban live bait and trebles in all sanctuaries/national parks but its not in place yet .
