We left for bronkies at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning got there and set up camp (it was quite cold.) I eventually got my lines in at +/- 8. All I Could do now was wait, and wait we did. After 3 hours I thought this would be another bad weekend, I’m never going to catch any fish! I started fishing in March, and after the 6th time of catching nothing bigger than my hand except a 2 kg blou kurper, I decided to make a late brunch to divert my mind from another possible horrible weekend.
Just as my wife and I sat down, my one line alarm went off, and it was screaming! I jumped up, stormed out and grabbed the rod with such a force I looked like a Jedi knight in a heated battle! "Now I've got it" I thought and carefully started reeling in, "this might be good day after all!" Suddenly all tension went along with my "moed". When I got my line out the hook was missing (bad knot, I am after all a beginner). I decided well I'm going to be here till Sunday morning, so lets try again. As I was putting bait on my "lost" rod the other alarm went. I stopped and said to myself "stop and think about what you were told to do". So I picked the rod up lightly and started rolling in the line slowly. When I got it out and it was the biggest fish I had ever seen alive. I finished putting the first line in and started prepping the second one. As I was putting my policeman on I heard the alarm go again. "That can’t be me, I’m not working that rough?!†So I looked and the policeman on the first rod was about 15 m out already. I kept my cool and did the same with this one. In the end I caught a total of 7 fish that day between 12 and 5, and lost 2. They were all above 4 kg as weighed on the scale by the people of the femme fatale competition. It was the best weekend I have ever had. All good comes to those who patiently wait.
Attached is a pic of the biggest one (4.8 kg on a flat scale)
