Hi guys,I picked up my Assassin Blade HMG 8-10oz today.Needless to say I can not wait to get it to the water, lol.I do have a few questions and will appreciate as much feed back as possible.

>i need to know whether I can use the high compression otg on this rod and what will be the recommended sinker weight

>is it advisable to do the full pendulum to load this rod (john holden style)

>what cast style do you guys use to load heavy rods

Thanks in advance

I trust you doing well.

I am no expert on the blade, but I fish with two of them. A HMG and a standard. The HMG, is light but it needs some power to load the rod. That being said, I also seen some small guys cast huge ditances with it. On my rod I mostly use 8oz, on the odd occasion I used 9oz. I used the 10oz on two occasions. The 10oz take some getting used to but the rod handles it with ease. You can use any menthod of casting this rod. A mate of mine used a pendulem on this rod and had no problems.

I personally just use the normal overhead cast on my rods. I am getting the 130 to 140 mark. I know its is not far as compared to some of the other guys casting. The difference is being in JHB we do not get to fish often so for me as long as the bait is in the water.

To me it is a beaut of a rod, and the pulling power is awesome. I am sure you will put it to the test in the transkei soon.

Take care

Kevin

Still have to see a SA angler do a full pendulum cast, as for Mr Holden he's coined it as the south African cast which is a half pendulum

As for casting the Blade and what it can handle, the harder and the more power in the Cast the better. it's a rod that demands respect and power input and it delivers the results

Hey guys

Im in the same boat.. i got my hmg blade from my good old friend Kevin yesterday and will be testing it tomorrow.. Im actually crapping my self coz i dont know if i will be loading the rod enough.. I have a assasin heavy that i was using before and for some reason i just cant master the perfect cast...  I get a decent distance but my mates are all out casting me... They all recon im stiff and cast with my shoulders and not my body...And i can feel it... My cast just doesnt feel comfy...
I currently pendulum it to the furthers point and bring it over the side and not directly over my shoulders,, that feels more comy than over my shoulders, but i can feels im not loading my rod properly...

This is realy not one of the easiest rods to cast, especially not if you put a Shimmy 50 on it. When I first got mine, I realy got frustrated as I just couldn`t the cast I wanted to. I began to use a 10oz sinker in place of the 8oz I used to use and I was astonished at the difference this made in regadrs to casting distance.
The rod is rated an 8-10oz but I must honestly say, for me, an 8 oz is a bit light for this rod. It just feels as if you cant load it properly with an 8oz, as if you cant get the rod to bend during the cast but with the 10oz it goes much better, you can actually feel the rod loading.

It takes some time getting used to this rod but when you got the feel of it, it is a great rod.

well i havent fishd with a blade anytime but i do fish with a assassin heavy hmg . this rod is also difficult to throw wid . but i find that having a long drop does load the rod properly and i am happy with the distance i get with it.

Just spend some time as you said through trial and error.
There are some types of casting that work better for some guys but remember, each person casts differently, there are very few people that casts in exactly the same way so spend some time with the rod and find the technique that suits you best.
If in any way possible, try to start with a meduim sized multiplier, the big guns can be difficult to cast at first.
As isaiah said, try a bit longer drop, come through strongly with your left hand( on the reel) and put a lot of hip action into it. Casting is a whole body action, not just in the arms.

my 2c

Good luck

Try get ur action as fast as possible. Speed halps allot.
U wanna just hear shhppp when ur leader leaves for outer space. 130-140 on a 50shimmi is good distance.

I don't have an assasin but I've got a BM /8+1 hmg
Long drop and smooth cast. Find slight sideways action helps me with the big reel. Smaller reel u can go straight over the shoulder.

What line and leader u throwing ?
I mostly use 8ounce and here and there 9.

Il be casting with a finnor 30 and its got .55 line and 1.5mm leader..

Iv tried casting a longer drop  but it just doesnt feel right, i use to also just trow 8oz with my assasin heavy but il have to throw 9 now with my blade...

Trial and error... I think some times i try to hrad and my body stiffens up...

But when you standing on a heigh rock and the water is splashing up and you only have limited time to make the cast then its not usualy easy to relax.. LOL

Lekker - Any advice on that cast of the sand?

Ja wat dis mooilik om met n stywe stok groot afstand te kry oppie sand veral as jy bietjie kort is. Ek verkies my standard /8.

Sien uit na die anner stok het n mission vir hom :fbash
