Problems casting with bait

Good day anglers. Good to see that you'll had a blast of a weekend.

I have problem with casting a bait. I can cast dead weight at over 120m mark but soon as put on a bait(not a clip & throw trace) I reach about 80m with a overwind.
What am I doing wrong?
1. Is a clip & throw trace a better option for distance even for edibles?
2. What would your cast drop be when you throw a double hook trace out for edibles be & they are biting deep inside.
3. Should I adjust the spool speed?

Please help.

Not going to get to in depth on this one but when u throw an unclipped bait it creates more air resistance which hampers your throw...so in future...clip your bait..

Kathie what size sinkers are you using and also give more info on rod/reel and line used.I have seen guys try and throw 6oz sinkers with 1mm leaders and .55 into a fresh wind.Bloody nice jerseys they made.Your sinker must be heavy enough to keep momentum for as long as possible keeping in mind that thicker line causes more drag hence heavier sinkers are required. The bait causes the prjectile to travel slower but your reel is spinning fast hence it cannot get rid of the line and voila GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG PING

Or just dont use bait.Ive found in my fishing that using bait doesnt make that much of a difference

Sinker - 6oz
Bait - Sard inside out.

As soon as you add anything to the end of your line you are adding air resistence, and should accomadate for it on your reels speed.

Kathie , I can see a small problem with your outfit vs sinker weight. You are gonna sukkel to load that rod with a 6oz and your line is also too thick for a 6 oz.Do yourselve a favour and get 8oz sinkers and see if you have the same problems.Look if you scratching for galjoen between the bricks and you dont need those long casts then youre OK.But boet that rod is way to stiff for a 6oz .I think I will knit a beautiful jersey now if I must try casting with a 6oz sinker.

but seriously cliping helps a lot streamlines the whole lot and then rod reel line sinker balance
try different setups and note what you throw with what and the results

A couple of other small technique type angles to try if you don't want to clip the bait...

1. Shorten your hook snoot and your sinker snoot to the same length, so that even if you do not use the clip, the sinker and bait will be close together and will travel better. If the snoots are of different lengths," helicoptering" of the bait is inevitable, as is loss of distance

2. Ensure that your bait is presented as aerodynamically as possible

3. If you don't enjoy clipping your baits using the built in clip on the sinker, make some smaller wire clips that hook into the eye of the sinker and onto the shank of the hook. Make sure there are no tendrils of bait cotton to snag the clip and let fly. As the bait hits the water, the tight trace slackens just long enough on impact to let the whole thing unclip, and the wire clip is lost.

Try it and let us know if it works.
