Good morning all I am using 25lb (0.39mm) Double X platinum for my leaders attached to 5lb Double X platinum main line . My reels are shimano super bait runners. I feel that the leader diameter is to thick for a nice presentation? My weights vary from m0 to m2 and often a vaaldam strop with a p4. Can I go thinner. Idealy I would like to go thinner but still with a strong enough breaking strain to handle the force of a flat out cast. Would braid be a practical option and if so which one should I go for. I have been warned that the thinner your leader the easier you can cut your finger? This is for freshwater fishing targeting carp etc from the bank(papgooi) Any suggestions/advice will be appreciated Tks |

Hi, the only way is to try, I have used Kingfisher Giant Abrasion as a leader the 9.1kg if im not mistaken it is 0.35mm. i have never had a break off on a flat out cast with this. i would not worry about cutting your finger with nylon, if you using a very thin braid than i would worry ![]() all the best Last edited on Tue Nov 30th, 2010 07:36 am by 200ts |

Hi benbreda I have found that the aiwa shima reflector line suits bank angling nicely. It has a high breaking strength, low diamete, low memory and is ideal for the problem u have. Braid is another option bt I have found that wen wet it tends to get heavy and I loose distance. I might be wrong bt the reflector line wrks very well for me Best of luck VR-VEEZ |

Diameter of 0.35mm is the maximum you need for an all day flat out casting with weights from 0-4 To really provide clean presentation with all weights I would look at 0.30-0.32mm for M0-M1.5 and a 0.35 for M1.5-P7 The thinner the leader the less your line twists up so a Braid leader really works well and we use 20lbs (27lbs) Jerry Brown green. It is 0.18mm and lays flat on the bottom. Is easily used from a spring to a 120gr weight. As with all braid fishing a finger stall or elastoplast is recommended and always tighten the drag before every single cast. |
