Guide Removal

Here is a short failsafe tutorial on removing a rod guide.

As far as possible avoid the use of heat and make use of a sharp blade.

For the novice it is advised to cut the binding off on the guide foot.

This way the metal of the guide provides a safety line and prevents accidental damage to the blank.

Cut the bind down to the guide foot and then level with the foot

Now trim the bind and epoxy either side of the foot an make sure there are no strands across the foot and that the entire top of the foot is exposed

Now hold the blank firmly in one hand and with the other apply pressure to the guide working it loose from the epoxy in a sideways to and fro action.

Remove the guide and clean residual epoxy from the blank to prepare it for a new bind. (See tips for stripping a blank)
