Hi Osie I have not fished Rus 'n Bietjie but fished vaal dam before . I would not leave FX out . Try using caramel / pink sweets / honey floaties with FX and A very little devils fork on the ball . Trucella hot honey also worked very well in this combo with some FX . Perdeby/Cina 1 on the ball with floaties and dough backing . Koo Pips also worked well . Good Luck

So how was the fishing over there? Im planning a trip there on Saturday, was wondering if anybody had any comments regarding winter fishing in the area....? I suppose the usual applies for the Vaal Dam - FX, chop-chop, pink sweets, etc. It is however my first time there, does anybody have any pointers regarding distance or good spots along the shore? Any comments would be appreciated....![]()

It gets quite busy since they started commercialising it more, expensive now too. Spots right at the end next to the boat club are probably the best, deeper water there & no rocks. Any other spot besides that one not cool....for fishing.

HEy guys, So I went to Rus n beitjie this past weekend. I just thought I would give it a go and see for myself. Firstly as I arrived I was met by Greg, the guy who runs the place. He is a plesant fellow and was kind enough to show me around. I booked one of those caravans on the water which cast me R300 a night and R100 deposit for the key. The caravan had two small bunkbeds and a small double bed and a fridge. It was pretty dingy for my standards. I dont want to be horrible but I can safely say that I would rather camp then stay in that caravan again, plus campings cheaper. Now for the fishing. The whole weekend I caught 4 fish, the biggest being just over a kilo. Not exactly the most exiting fishing weekend. I've got a little duck with a fishinder on it so I went out to do a bit of sounding and accross that whole stretch of bank the water level didn't get deeper than 2m. This already rendered the fishing pretty pointless. The ablution blocks, although not super dingy, don't look anything like the picture on their website. They were useable though. The place was also quite packed over the weekend and I did land up getting tangled with the guys next to me once. All in all, in my books I would give this place about a 4/10. I'm not sure I would bother going on another fishing excursion to Rus n beitjie again. Just my 5c worth.

nice... we like it when sealiners post their honest opinions about places, this could help other guys with the same questions. Vaaldam has a lack of decent fishable places where you can take the whole family and have them entertained enough so that you can concentrate on fishing. Pitty Jim Fouche closed down

Hey guys, Reviving an old thread.. I will be going there this weekend. Booked two camp sites, and have two avid (sea) fishermen with me - unfortunately, this is the closest we get to fishing up this side... We are going with the family as well, so will post an update on the current situation of the place.
