Serious question (I could not find anything using the search option).

As far as I know, carp is not a protected species in SA.

Can one use carp, harvested from freshwater dams/lakes/rivers as bait in the ocean?

Is this a viable option, especially when going offshore fishing?

I will appreciate some feedback.

Cheers.

This is a somewhat belated reply to your query. But no, carp isn't protected and you may use it for bait. I have tried it when fishing for inedibles from the beach but didn't have any luck. I think it doesn't bleed enough and its smell isn't strong enough.
