Hi Guys,

Does anybody have or know anybody selling a power wrapper/dryer?

Been looking at importing, but the exchange rate and delivery is killing it.

Would prefer to by locally and second hand if possible.

Please give me a shout on zero seven two 808 52 zero 2

Thanks,

Scott

Hi there,

Would you be interested in trying to make one yourself?

Can double as a lure dryer.

All you need is a 8rpm microwave motor (search gumtree) and an old light switch and then knock up some stands.

Will save you plenty! You really don't need the big $ machines!

on the net there are tutorials to make really fancy ones yourself, but bling is really not necessary!

Have attached a pic of mine that is currently turning a coat of epoxy for a jig. I have a third stand that I use only with longer rods. Have re-done my arsenal of rods either as refurbs or catering for my desired specs. Very satisfying.

I have made the stands already.. Was looking at sewing machine motors, never though of a microwave motor.

Thats a great idea!! Thanks for the info.

Doing the guides by hand is fine, but its the drying thats a mission!

Apparently also rotisserie motors also work well which you can find sold stand alone in the camping goods section of shoprite stores or massmart stores I think I have seen them. Comes with an AC adapter or 9v battery input. Ja, but they are about 300 bucks so.. if you don't find a broken microwave to pillage..

Plenty of appliance stores selling the motors and parts you need

Personally I don't use the Microwave motors as they rotate at 6rpm. I prefer the 9rpm motors from Mudhole. I'm running 16 dryers and have to replace 3 or 4 motors a year with the amount pf rods we put through them (especially if running 14'surf rods and 130# Big Game rods)

The weight of the rods hurts the gears

I built mine on two 25 mm pipes which rest on brackets against the wall of my garage. I have used a motor vehicle wiper motor and an old style sewing machine motor. The wiper motor speed is reduced with pulleys. The sewing machine motor works best because of the pedal control which controls the speed. I made a chuck with three bolts which centre the rod and adjustable rests which move to any position on the 25 mm pipes.
