 Good day, I am a newbie and would like to know wat is a good 12" rod for rock, beach, bait and lures ect. all rounder for eatables.

Want to use it for casting and spinning
I have a sentation short range 12" V2 rod for dam and river that I heard can be used for shad spoon.

What is the best for beginner a stiff rod or not?
I have never fish at the sea and really need advice!

I'm looking at a price range of R1350-00 to spend and will be using a coffe grinder

Was looking at Loomis & Franklin shockwave , Okuma Azores, Shimano Beastmaster Surf Pro, Loomis shad pro x (R850-00). 

I can get a Okuma Azores not the slim, previous version for R1300-00

this is a can of worms!!!
technology has changed quite a bit.
so a search of what rod to use might be a bit off in the sealine records.

it all depends on what you want to do with the rod.

it is of no use, to you, to buy the most expensive rod and only use it perhaps 1x a year!!!

I would look at the king fisher rod range.
they have a 11,6 1-4 ounce rod!!!
and with that, you can do most things.

if im not mistaken Brett Harris fished with 0ne in kunene/ angola and he was quite surprised.

the used the rods to spin for shad/ Garrick on plugs.
but it can be used for bait as well.

you need to consider where you are from.
buying local is sometimes better!!!

I bought 2x loomis and franklin rods.
the 1x rod I broke twice in one season.
2x times it was replaced, quite quickly without any fuss.

and beware of empty promises!!! from your local sales shop.

we tested a rod, 12 feet, 6 inch 3-5 ounce at st lucia, casting 6 ounce plugs and it worked for us.
we got 140 meters plus easily.
it was a ova rod, will see if I can get the name of it.
but I think production was stopped on it.

also take note, that your style of fishing might also not suit the rod!!!

currently you are not closer to a decision of a particular rod, but something to chew on while you search for the perfect rod.

 then I would rather buy a heavier rod, more robust type of rod.

the spinning rods the guys use "11.6ft" which is specifically for spinning is very light and to a extent quite brittle.

you should take your time with rods.
the models are changing quick, so best technology today is old technology tomorrow.

angling shops needs to have equipment on display and when they are discontinued, and a new model arrives, then you get better prices as they need the new rod to be on display.


you could always give Enigma a pm or a call "CDS Angling"
he does build fishing rods, he is well known.

he could build you something for your needs!

 Do you want a 2 or 3 piece rod... There is a much bigger pool of rods to choose from in 2 piece than 3 piece.

Casting lures the lure specific rods as mentioned are usually a lot lighter because you are going to cast it the whole day.

Your reel also plays a part in your decision

If it's a one rod for all disciplines thing you might have to go a bit heavier. The oval rod could be a seagrand.

 I can relate here... I was also looking for something similar recently when I was at the coast, I ended up buying a Okuma G-force 12ft and a Okuma revenger pro-x reel to match it, with boss slick 8x 50lb braid and it was sufficient, I got good casting distance (exceeded my expectations to be honest) and although I didn't get any action with a big sea fish but I did catch 3 barbel over 10kg in the Mtentweni river/lagoon in Port Shepstone and it handled them well. So that worked for me and it only costed me R1000 for the setup (without the braid), but since you only need the rod I think I paid R480 for it (I was also looking for something in the range of R1000 but where I shopped this one was the only 12ft rod apart from those cheap rod+reel combo's you get and I have a 8ft Okuma g-force which I rated pretty good, and I'm glad it happened that way because I feel I got a good rod for a good price). Anyway that's my opinion, goodluck with the fishing that side ::tight:

Hi

I have the 11ft model (1.5 to 4oz HMG)the older one (before the STX). I paired it with a Shimano 5000 size reel and 30lbs braid. This rod is capable of throwing a 3 oz sinker and full sard. IMO it is a beautiful rod that casts a mile. Throws a 2oz GT icecream plug very nicely. Only caught Shad/Elf with it.

I don't know if I would call it a good ALL ROUNDER as there are different setups for different applications.

I have the Sensation Caspian Spin 11ft, I think it is the same as the Okuma Caspian 11ft, not sure if it is the same blank.

I would take the Loomis, the Loomis is much better, I think you will not be disappointed.

 I'm also interested in the Archipelago STX (new version). Looking at the 11ft 1.5oz to 4oz model, to cast paddletails for kob and plugs for leeries.
I know the old model got very good reviews, hope the new one also impresses.

What type of fishing will you do? Lure or Bait fishing?

I do not think there is a rod that can be used for both applications. I would get a spinning setup for throwing lures and a heavier setup for bait.

Have a look at these rods if you like Loomis.
