Hi sealiners, This is my first post here. Just asking some advise on the 2 different rods and which you would recommend I stay in Joburg so this will be used occasionally when we go down to the coast for eds and ineds, basically anything that bites. I am looking at both, that are 14'6 6-8 spinning. I will probably pair it with the BG 6500/8000. I did some research and the Okuma comes with Fiji guides where the Assassin only has stainless steel guides. Had a look at the Assassin today at Mias, Randburg and seems like a decent rod - decent build and light. They are both in the same price range and perfect for my budget as it will only be used occasionally. Then my last question, can I use my SL50SH on this type of rod to slide - will the Bionic finger obstruct the line when casting with a multiplier? This will be my first 'BIG' spinning rod. Regards

Haha nice one, I didnt see any 14.6 metaloids online and that got me thinking why not the equinox, both cost almost the same but the equinox has cheaper guides, reel seat and doesn't come with a rod tube so why does it cost the same as metaloid, is the blank better.

I fish with the 14ft6 Assassin Equinox and it's a lovely rod. I use mine for both eds and ineds and it handles a 5oz sinker with a tiny chokka bait just as well as it handles a 7 or 8oz sinker with a whole flapped mackerel. It has the exact same blank as the more expensive Assassin Solar rod, and I haven't had any issues with the "cheaper" components on the rod. It is also felt a lot lighter than the Metaloid when I compared the two rods in the shop. And it pairs perfectly with my BG6500 Last edited on Thu Jul 18th, 2019 01:32 pm by JeandlH |

Ok I see that the rod only came out end of 2018. Can you fish with the equinox on the rocks or is the blank to fragile. I see it's advertised as a surf rod.

You can fish with any rod on the rocks but if you knock any hmg blank sharply, in your car, at home, on the rocks...there is a chance it will snap there later..its the way it is..I've snapped my composite rods after knocking them about in the back of the bakkie, I have still have HMG rods going strong after a few rock gnashes and years of use, so it's down to luck sometimes and where you knock it and how hard you do.. You can use a bass rod off the rocks..it just depends on the application!

Rather get yourself a rod that has the correct sinker rating for your needs. The Equinox is way to heavy if you only want to target edibles.

Guys, I had the same debate between the two rods for some time. I bought the okuma that was on sale on sealine (as new) and paired it with my bg5000 throwing a 6 ounce for eds. Casts and feels great. Sure, a bit on the heavy side but nothing you can't handle even if holding the rod for a while. Equinox is a nice rod but with the okuma its fuji k series guides and reel seat and bottom line is you get what you pay for. I am happy. Next rod will be an Alectis or other slimline 13ft 3-5 ounce to pair with my smaller 55 azores. Can't wait to try that too.
