Base yourself in Fish Hoek but don't fish Fish Hoek (I lived there for 19 years and fished all over there)

Fish from Baileys cottage to Macassar for surf fishing for kob and Sharks

Fish Cape Point for Hotties, Roman and spin for Yellowtail

Areas in Fish Hoek are MPA and not good for fishing, in the winter, Clovelly will deliver Galjoen

Fish the Kalk Bay harbour wall for Stumpies and the odd Kob

Thank you very much for the reply.
What does the term MPA mean?

From previous topics I read that macasar not the safest to fish if you are only two people. Will I still find decent fishing up to Strandfotein from Baileys?

Any advice on baits? Chokka, prawn, bloodworm from what I have researched so far.

Which tackle shops around that area do you recommend?

Yes Macassar in a group or the area from Baileys to Strandfontein pavilion is well occupied with Anglers so take a drive and fish daytime in the vicinity of other anglers already there without unnecessarily encroaching on their area till they invite you to join.

ie. Drive on bayden Powel Dr and stop to talk to the guys fishing and then chose a spot, many will invite you to join them. Here you are alongside the road and you can see your car etc.

Fishing there is very tough especially in December. pump bloodworm and prawn in the surf in Muizenburg corner otherwise chokka and sardine combo or white mussel.

Look up Matthew Bosch on facebook, he works at Tuckerstackle in Dieprivier and will set you up and they have all the bait and tackle you need. Near to you in Fish Hoek is Great White Tackle in the Main Road across from the Station

Thank you so much for the advice.

Seeing that I will be there for a couple of days, can you recommend other spots outside the bay that might be better for for december fishing?

You're pretty much limited to the Batten Powel-Gordon's bay, Simonstown, Cape Point or rock fishing at Soetwater (not recommended in Dec) Misty Cliffs and Kalk Bay harbour wall.

Hi NoX,

Another possibility is Betty's Bay - safe, not as great as Struis but a whole lot closer.
Main Beach is popular, Silversands beach some big spotties / the odd smooth hound come out often - good fun, and you never know - could pick up a kob or even steenie if you lucky.
If those areas are clean / the west wind is blowing you can try Maas Baai just past the Hangklip hotel.
And there are loads of rocky areas to scratch, although gallie season is closed then and the crayfish might drive you mad stealing your bait all the time.

And if you only have a few days / want to maximize your odds, perhaps consider making use of a guide? Wikus from MMM Cape Town Fishing Adventures has a very good reputation, and knows False Bay incredibly well - he would take you to the best place on the day / according to conditions and what you want to target. You can find him on Facebook.

Hi
You are very welcome.
I've never used a guide either, but thought if pressed for time / you do not know the area and where to go according to conditions it may be an appealing option.

It may have changed - best you contact him - but a friend of mine took his Dad / father-in-law late last year, think he said it was R950 for a day if he supplies tackle, R650 if you bring your own. And he supplies bait as well as some basics like coffee / sandwiches or something.

My advice is if you want to really fish the productive spots in False Bay with a very knowledgeble person then book a tour with Wikus (Galjoen). Search MMM fishing adventures on Facebook.

Edit: Just saw someone already recommended Wikus

thanl you very much guys.

I appreciate the help and the recomendations.

As I will be there a couple of days I obviously want to explore different spots.

I will keep on researching and prepare myself as I have never fished in Cape Town and surrounding before. Closest was Witsand. Lol. Which is far enough away.

Hopefully I will bump into some of sealine guys while myself and my wife (how lucky can a guy be) are trying our luck
