Floating live bait well

Quite often i find myself anchored for the day with my live baits out. What always has me concerned is constantly running my live bait pump, the fact that it runs for so long could possibly burn it out or god forbid run my battery flat.

So, i'm going to tackle a DIY project and make something like this for when im anchored.

Good idea. Might work out cheaper than buying a keep net.

It will work and cannot be that expensive to make.
it will take a lot of space on your deck, unless you make it fold able.
I am not sure what the size of your well is but you can install a smaller pump to circulate the water(350 gph) which draws minimum current. Use your main pump to add fresh water every half hour.
this could help and save some space

for sitting on anchor it will work nicely.

Willem, the garrick start pushing through here in Kzn soon and enter Durban harbour.

On days when its to windy to go out to sea, i like to anchor up in the harbour, put a live bait or 2 out and read a good book occasionally sipping on an adult beverage or 2.

Its extremely relaxing, so the floating livie well will only be on deck for a very short period.

The center bar holding the upper and lower sections of the live bait well can be removed during transportation, allowing it to fold down on itself.

Then again i have a cobra cat 525 so there is no shortage of deck space.

Another method ......And it works perfectly.

Find yourself a suitable sized Bucket or drum with detachable lid. Drill holes in it, enough to ensure good water flow. Get one of those cheeeeepie kiddies nets to scoop a little ie and you will be sorted.

Another idea would be a keep net the guys use for carp fishing.

but I think you can modify it much better.......

by using steel cable and shade cloth.
the steel cable will always want to expand to the natural round shape.
by just twisting the steel cable you will be able to fold it up to half its size. "bottom and top sections"

the only thing you need to do is get more weight on the bottom section so it stretches the whole time, just like a sinker, 6 or 8 ounce.

you would obviously need to sort the door/ inlet area.

but we are anglers, we make things out of nothing!!!

or buy a net for carp like cobia333 stated.

but if you want to play and create something.......then off you go!

Its probably a bit late, but for a very cheap option - use a shopping basket,milk grate or laundry basket with thin slots.
Add some pool noodle to the sides with cable ties around the lip of the container and if needed make up a lid and secure with a few cable ties.

Can use the container to load stuff on and off the boat as well .
