Hi guys .after a few months of prepping my boat and making hand reels to Handel the depths I went out again targeting blue nose .the wind was less than 6 knots and most inportent the pressure was 1020 at 05h00 going up to 1022 by 11h00 that's my target time. From 11h00 to 13h00 it dropped to 1020 so that was the time to look around for new reefs and fish as the fish would be off the ground .after 13h00 the pressure went up to 1022 I'll target the fish then till home time.crew was late so I left at 05h00 as the sun came up I was on the mark only 3 guys on the boat so I was flying yo the spot.as the pressure was rising there were no showing on the finder I was the first one to go on a nice moustage grouper of 24 kg on the diwa electric reel .next drift one more.3 drift it was Yaseen with a donky of a grouper 37,6kg.10h30 fish was off the bite.I'm looking for my blue nose .trolled around till 13h00 and staith on with a blue nose of 14 kg what a fish .

Very interesting and well done on the catches.

Is it possible to release any of these fish or do they generally suffer from barotrauma due to the depths they are caught at?

To deep to release the groupers heart stops beating. But the blue nose is possible to release that's why we only took one home released 4.very nice eating same as musdelcracker. For the grouper each guys took one and a half to eat.I will go for them in Nov again.will try to go for deep sea swollowtail next.

For gigging you need a Stella 20 000.it will work properly and the big Bluenoses will be first to take it.we lose a lot of sinkers by the fish going for the sinkers first
I use black tape to rap the sinkers to avoid los of sinkers

Epic report and fishing! Have you ever encountered wreckfish, polyprion sp. or are those grouper members of the family? Fascinating stuff you have been up to.
