The Novice sea fisherman

In the last two weeks I've spent most of my time next to the o'll mighty ocean. As a complete novice I read up about the different methods of fishing such as using drift bait for instance, but I also learned tying fancy knots with even fancier names.

I managed to cast further than the 50m line imagined in my head. After a few days I came across a thing, the locals I met up with in my time here in Margate, refer to as a bucktail jig, tried that too, but to no avail.

I even began pondering about life and all of its intricasies, imagined being stranded on an island having to survive and even building a liferaft with a few branches...food however would be my biggest challenge seeing that a whole sardine on a hook did not last 2 minutes before it was devoured by little fish.

Anyhow...

Finally this morning, the last day of my holiday, I took my wife with me hoping to show her all I've learned - even though I had not caught anything, she even got into it and asked to use one of my rods.

Of course she did not fancy my methods and rigged it up the way her father taught her.

After about two hours, I threw in the towel and suddenly she went histerical...yeah you guessed it, she caught a fish!

Im sticking to carp and bass.

Anyone have an idea of what fish she's holding up so I can at least impress her with my knowledge of fish species.

Hahaha I can't help but laugh at your post!
Sounds so familiar :):):)

I have decided that buying fish to braai is WAY cheaper than trying to catch one!

Managed a few blacktails and a small stumpie but freshwater is certainly kinder to me!

My buds saw the photos of my daily strugle posted on my social media accounts and waited till the last day before giving advice -such great friends! Ive attached a pic of one of my least favourite fishing days during the two week struggle. I concur freshwater fishing is way simpler and kinder!
