Sliding in Calm Water

Deadweight

New member
Hi everyone, new member here from Australia. Been interested in the sliding technique that you guys across the creek seem to have a lot of success with. Bought a couple of slides and sinkers and I'm keen to give it a go once Spring comes around. Just a question- is it possible to slide baits out in calm water (ie- bays with no wave action)? I imagine a live bait hooked near the tail would eventually make it to the sinker with the 'whipping' motions of the rod, but a dead bait wouldn't make it very far at all?

Thanks for the help.

Both will make it to the sinker. Its easier to slide in calm water. The higher above the water you are the easier it will be, but even off a beach you'll be ok.

Sliding in calm water is not something I would recommend with a dead bait. Through my experience the bait stops a few meters from the sinker and when a fish takes the bait you get a burn off.

I would definitely recommend getting on a high point to get a better angle.

But ja, if you don't try you will never know. Good luck
